What is Choosy ?

Tired of the age-old question, "What's for dinner?" Look no further – enter Choosy, a German-made app that turns meal planning into a stress-free and delightful experience.

Choosy assists you in personalizing your palate based on your dietary preferences, streamlining your food planning process, and facilitating seamless shopping for creating your essential grocery lists.

In my role as a designer and illustrator, I was brought on board by Choosy to revamp their user interface, specifically focusing on refreshing onboarding illustrations and revamping all the icons used within the app.

I am thrilled to introduce the updated illustrations that will redefine your everyday culinary journey while using the Choosy app. Explore a new era of meal planning with Choosy – where simplicity meets satisfaction.

Colors 🎨

Improving a Palette

After being briefed by the Choosy CEO and their team, I was introduced to the app's illustration requirements. The first request was not to stray too far from the existing palette, as the app already has an established brand voice and customer base. Therefore, I focused on the current colors, expanding them with lighter and darker tones, and adding a few additional colors in the same tone to make the illustrations more dynamic.

Sketching ideas

The characters required a friendly and contemporary look, steering clear of excessive trends. After exploring different character designs, we concluded that the optimal approach is to uphold realistic body proportions without unnecessary exaggeration.

Additionally, I needed to ensure that the compositions on each screen were not overly complex. The purpose of these onboarding illustrations is to avoid diverting too much attention from the user as they navigate through the app. The primary focus should remain on the questions presented on each screen.

UI Screens 📱

Onboarding

And voila, in the final designs, the most important aspect was to create more than just two characters that would represent Choosy; our primary goal was to emphasize DIVERSITY. I aimed to showcase that Choosy is an app for everyone. However, I also needed to consider that a maximum of two characters should be in one scene; otherwise, the scene would become too complex, and the user might spend more time analyzing the illustration than answering the onboarding questions.

Take your time to navigate through all the screens and download the Choosy app from the App Store to experience it firsthand. Presently, the app is exclusively available for the German market, but there are plans to expand its availability to the global market soon.
